Vale Amanda Shoobridge
Somersby Equestrian Club (SEC), the NSW Central Coast region, the dressage world, and Australian and International Wamblood and pony breeders are mourning the sudden, tragic death late last month of Revelwood Stud's Amanda Shoobridge.
Amanda, aged 38, had travelled to London for an international equine vetinary breeding symposium, when she was taken ill and passed away on 22 July.
The family invited the equestrian community to help remember Amanda at a memorial service at the Great Hall at Sydney University on 9 August to celebrate her extraordinary life and achievements. In acknowledgement of Amanda's appreciation for the great work of the Riding for the Disabled Associattion (RDA), the family asked that a donation be made to them in her memory rather than the gift of flowers. SEC has made a donation to Central Coast RDA in Amanda's name.
Amanda is survived by her eight-year-old daughter, Annabel, and her mother and business parter at Revelwood, Eve Crestani.
Amanda was well known as a warmblood and more recently, dressage pony breeder with stallions standing at Revelwood Stud who included Stedinger and 00 Seven, as well as superstar German Riding Pony sire, Noble Dancer, and also importing frozen semen from many of Europe's elite dressage sires.
Breeding her first foal at Revelwood in 1997, Amanda's vetinary reproduction practice went on to have a major hand in breeding some of Australia's most outstanding performance horses.
In addition, Amanda was having enormous success with her current competition dressage horses including Revelwood Destiny (FEI), Revelwood Florentine (Medium), Noble Dancer (Advanced), Diva Toscana (5yo & Novice) and Movie Star (5yo). Amanda was a regular at SEC competitions in past years, often bringing her young horses, and was a pleasure to have as a competitor as well as being a delight to watch.
Eve Crestani said in late July that the coroner had confirmed that Amanda's dealth was due to bacterial meningitis.
"I cannot thank enough the wonderful friends who have offered such amazing assistance and support at such a difficult time," she said. "Please bear with us (at Revelwood Stud) if we are a little slow in responding at this time.
"I would like to express my enormous gratitude for the many heartfelt messages I have received at this extremely difficult time," Mrs Crestani said.
Somersby Equestrian Club is developing a dressage award in Amanda's name for it's competitions, to begin in 2019.
What a fantastic day we had on our Members only T-Shirt Day held on the 28th August. Altogether we raised a total of $720 for Nepean RDA, with a big thank you going out to Phil Janson and GeoSnapshot who added $54 to the total by donating half the sales from photos taken and purchased from the day. A big thank you to all of our members who helped us achieve an incredible result for a well deserved cause.

Megan Joerg Warm Up Clinic
Our Megan Joerg Warm Up clinic was a success! Megan was wonderful with both riders and spectators alike, explaining the rules of the warm up arena as well as training techniques. Well done to all those who participated on the day.
We were recently approved for a special projects funding grant through Dressage NSW to help with the additional costs of running our events and after some consideration we believe that the money will be best spent purchasing a new laptop and printer to help the processes in the score shed. As a club we would like to take the time to thank Dressage NSW for their on-going support, we would not be able to do what we do without their help.

We had a fantastic day on Sunday the 20th with Scott Brodie from TRT. Scott brought along one of his OTT thoroughbreds and there were many sighs and a few "I want him" (including me) as Scott put him though his paces. The afternoon was spent with several riders having a lesson with Scott. Everyone walked away smiling (including the horses) as the wealth of knowledge and experience was passed from trainer to rider, Thank you Scott, for coming to Il Cafore for the day and giving us such an insight into your work with these lovely animals. Thank you to the helpers Anna Lockwood, Kate Butler, Pia Cartwright, Jade King and Paula Kerslake. It was a well run and rewarding day for all! Thank you Robyn Stones for putting together such a well run and informative clinic.
I hope to see you all at the Championships!
Last competition of 2013
For our last competition of 2013, I am happy to say that we finished it off well with some wonderful sponsorship coming on board from Aussie Saddlery, McGrath Stockfeeds, Horseland Central Coast and Petbarn. Many prizes were handed out at the end of the day, and on behalf of the SEC committee, I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to those local businesses who gave so generously! Please support these businesses, as without their involvement, it would have "just been another dressage day!"
My personal appreciation goes to the SEC committee - in particular Shauna, Coralie and Liz who not only slog themselves on the day, but also in the weeks prior too (no doubt they will be looking forward to the next few months off). Many thanks also to the great helpers on the day from Angie who tirelessly cleared the indoor manure, to Anna P and Bill B who were awesome in the scoring shed as well as the many gear checkers, pencillers and runners.
Great judges, lovely smiling riders and beautiful horses. Well done everyone - it was a great day. Thanks for supporting the club, and we look forward to an enjoyable 2014!
New 2013 Preparatory tests are now in and will be used by SEC. CLICK HERE for all dressage tests!
